Annalisa Marzano (Hrsg.), Villas, Peasant Agriculture, and the Roman Rural Economy

In the 17th volume of the Archaeology and Economy in the Ancient World – Proceedings of the 19th International Congress of Classical Archaeology, Cologne/Bonn 2018, the large villas of the Roman upper class as well as rural businesses, which shaped the landscape at the time of the Roman Republic and the Empire, form the main topic. The authors of the present volume attempt to achieve a more organic assessment of the functioning of the "villa economy" and the "peasant economy". The contributions focus on the question of whether there are intersections here and whether the situation in Roman Italy is comparable to that in the provinces
