Since the pictorial and iconic turn, there has been extensive trans- and interdisciplinary research on images and their perception under the terms of Bildwissenschaften and Visual Culture Studies. The contributions in this conference volume discuss  the new knowledge potential that results from this work for the archaeological investigation of visual cultures.
