Lucian of Samosata's treatise „Wie man Geschichte schreiben soll“ about historiography and its rules is an important source for the study of ancient historiography. Isidor Brodersen, however, regarded the treatise as part of Lucian's literary game and explores the question of whether the latter, who is known primarily as an author of humorous works and satires, actually had the primary goal of teaching in historiography.
