Propylaeum

Volume 20 der Reihe Archäologie und Geschichte, deals with the excavations at Birkenberg near Freiburg i. Br. The excavations brought to light the remains of a medieval castle. This, as well as the records, confirmed the long-held assumptions that there was a connection between the castles and the nearby tunnels for silver mining in the southern Black Forest in the Middle Ages, during which the lords of the castle supervised the extraction of the ores and their preparation.
