Archäologische Quellen

In the Lower Saxony town of Cloppenburg, extensive archaeological excavations were conducted at the town's oldest church, St. Andrew's Church in the district of Krapendorf. The investigations uncovered over 200 predominantly early modern graves on the periphery of the former churchyard. In addition, various building structures, which were part of residential buildings adjacent to the church, were unearthed. One of these buildings was the service building of the chaplain of St. Andrew's Church. In addition, around the church, a complex network of paths from different periods was documented.

Dr. Christopher Otto, born in 1989, pursued his studies in Prehistoric Archaeology, Classical Archaeology, Early Christian Archaeology, as well as Sinology and Japanology at the Universities of Münster and Bochum. In 2022, he was awarded a doctoral degree for his interdisciplinary study on the elaborate burial customs of Europe and Japan. He has previously collaborated with various excavation firms throughout North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony, undertaking prospections, supporting construction projects, and leading both area and urban excavations spanning diverse historical periods. Currently, he is employed by Archäologie am Hellweg. Additionally, Dr. Otto is advancing his habilitation thesis which focuses on the dissemination and accessibility of excavation findings. Moreover, he holds regular teaching appointments at the University of Münster.
