Workshop 1: lostart.de: Dokumentation von Objekten, Provenienzen und Restitutionen

During the first workshop Andrea Baresel-Brand introduced the database Lost Art (www.lostart.de). It is run by the German Lost Art Foundation in Magdeburg. The Lost Art Database documents cultural assets which were displaced or relocated as a result of the events of World War II, or – in the case of Jewish ownership – items that were illegally confiscated by the Nazis under threat of persecution. Data on cultural objects is often transmitted via Excel-forms, the person or institution reporting is responsible for keeping these data up to date. With this and thanks to various research tools, the Lost Art Database also serves to document the results of provenance research. Since January 2020, the PROVEANA research database has also been available, which incorporates mainly research results from projects funded by the German Lost Art Foundation and which is intended to be an improvement in various aspects (https://www.proveana.de/en/start).
