Kunst im Kontext der Inklusionsdebatte

This conference volume deals with the issue of art and inclusion from interdisciplinary perspectives: Experts from museums as well as from the fields of Rehabilitation Sciences, Art Theory and Disability Studies discuss the artistic production, presentation, mediation and reception of works by artists in need of assistance. In addition to academic research the book also contains methodological reflections: Artist collectives and studios present their working methods and networks, drawing on sample projects they have completed. Questions concerning curatorial practice, inclusive exhibition concepts and the role of the institutions are addressed as well as inclusive approaches to art education. Interviews and reviews introduce the reader to some artists in need of assistance and provide an insight into their work.

Peter Daners is an art historian and art mediator. He completed his studies of Art History, Christian and Classical Archaeology at the universities of Bonn and Louvain-La-Neuve. Following his time as a research assistant at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn he became head of the education department at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. Since 2014 he has been Curator of Education at Museum Folkwang.

Frederik Poppe is a professor at the Department for Social Work, Media and Culture at Merseburg University of Applied Sciences. He is a graduate of Universität der Künste Berlin (Berlin University of the Arts) and holds a degree in Rehabilitation Sciences from the Humboldt University, Berlin. After receiving his PhD with a study on “Interactions between artists in need of assistance and their caregivers” he worked for four years as managing editor for the professional journal TEILHABE.

Annika Schank is an art historian and art mediator. After completing her studies at Bonn University and Université Sorbonne in Paris she started working as a research associate in the education department of Museum Folkwang and as a lecturer at the Department of Art and Material Culture at TU Dortmund University.

Melanie Schmitt is a freelance art educator and art historian. She develops and implements concepts, strategies and working methods for cultural and sociocultural contexts. From 2002 to 2016 she was the deputy head of Atelier Goldstein run by the Lebenshilfe in Frankfurt am Main. Since 2016 she has been responsible for the concept and establishment of the Kunsthaus run by the Gold-Kraemer-Stiftung near Cologne as an artistic director.
