Materialien zur Archäologie in Baden-Württemberg

The "Materialien zur Archäologie in Baden-Württemberg" are an open access series of the State Office for Cultural Heritage Preservation in the Regional Council of Stuttgart (Landesamt für Denkmalpflege im Regierungspräsidium Stuttgart). It provides monographs and compilations on all subject areas of archaeological heritage conservation in Baden-Württemberg and all periods from pre- and protohistory through the Roman period and the Middle Ages to modern times.

The series was established in 2024 and supplements the traditional book publications of the State Office with an online format that is freely accessible without an embargo period. The primary aim is to publish results of archaeological excavations in Baden-Württemberg. In contrast to the print series "Forschungen und Berichte zur Archäologie in Baden-Württemberg", the focus is not on extensive scientific analyses, but on the timely publication of catalogue volumes and compilations of find material.

PIA 1. Bericht des Pilotprojekts Inwertsetzung Ausgrabungen

The "Pilot Project for the Valorisation of Excavations" (PIA) is developing methods and standards for efficient processing and publication of rescue excavations. The first PIA volume contains several articles on a large-scale excavation in Cleebronn (Lkr. Heilbronn) with settlement features and burials from the Middle Neolithic, the Urnfield period, the Latène period and the Early and High Middle Ages. The excavation of two latrines and a well in the Roman vicus of Sindelfingen (Lkr. Böblingen) yielded spectacular features and finds. An introduction to the aims and methods of the pilot project and an overview of the rescue excavations in 2023 complement the volume.
