Bronzezeitliche Flussfunde vom Rhein zwischen Speyer und Worms

Fundgeschichte, Fundbedingungen, Topografie, Materialvorlage, Chronologie

Between 1972 and 2008, a large complex of fluvial deposits was found during gravel extraction within the Old Rhine Loop at Roxheim. The finds provide a broad basis of information on the condition of the objects at the time of deposition, the intentions of the depositors, the conditions under which they were found and, in general, the filters of find tradition. Together with other river finds from the Rhine between Speyer and Worms, this is the first representative sample for western Central Europe of what was actually deposited in the river during the Middle and Late Bronze Age, often in a destroyed state. The critical analysis of the material presented provides the basis for more detailed research into Bronze Age river deposits in western Central Europe.

Lothar Sperber, retired in 2008, was formerly head of the Pre- and Early History Collection at the Historical Museum of the Palatinate in Speyer. His special field of research is the Late Bronze Age (including chronology, society, elites, religion, Celtic ethnogenesis, metal economy).
