Skandinavische Prunkgräber des 4. Jahrhunderts n. Chr.
The four ceremonial burials are considered to be key artefacts of the late Roman Imperial period. The focus here is on their landscape archaeological context. Their creation is always linked to central regions with diverse resources and labour: The bodily burials in burial chambers under mounds at prominent terrain points or in traffic-controlling locations represent monuments of their time. Garments and weapons decorated with precious metals are interpreted as the insignia of a local elite. Imports create a network into the Roman cultural area and as far as south-east Europe. The forms and ideas used indicate an understanding of a common identity among the Scandinavian elites.
