Beiträge zur Altägyptischen Kunst

Beiträge zur Altägyptischen Kunst

The series „Beiträge zur Altägyptischen Kunst" ((“Contributions to ancient Egyptian art” – BAK) has been published since 2021 on behalf of the Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum Hildesheim and appears in loose succession. This series is specifically dedicated to Art Research and Visual Culture Studies in Egyptology.

Of particular concern is traceable to analyse and interpret the discussed artworks and thereby also to reflect on used terms, art-theoretical approaches and methods. In the BAK-series mainly anthologies are published which bundle articles to superordinate topics or papers collected from workshops and conferences. Monographs are also included, provided they offer methodically founded, new and high-quality research results on the art of Ancient Egypt.

The volumes are published by Propylaeum-eBooks in open access free of charge and simultaneously as hardcover books in print-on-demand process.

Art Research and Visual Culture Studies is considered a marginal field in Egyptology today. Thus, the anthology is intended to serve the one for scientific understanding, the other for self-study. Above all, it is intended to stimulate own reflections, if possible in front of the discussed artworks. The contributions demonstrate different procedures, most of which have matured in practice as a result of sharpened, explorative perception. Special concern was to analyse and to interpret the discussed artworks in a comprehensible way and also to deal with applied terms, art historical approaches and methods.
