Karl Benjamin Preusker as Agent and Biographer of National Antiquarianism between 1810 and 1844

Karl Benjamin Preusker not only made a huge contribution to shaping the archaeological study of the early Germanic peoples in the period from the War of Liberation into the early 1840s, but he also reflected extensively on the subject in his writings, including his autobiography. These sources, together with his correspondence, provide detailed information about the protagonists, the social context, and the role of archaeological societies. Preusker pioneered new archaeological methods and ensured that his knowledge was disseminated. For these reasons, his legacy is still relevant today.
