Workshop 2: Ein Löffel – viele Fragen. Den legalisierten Raub erinnern

Angela Jannelli from the Historisches Museum Frankfurt am Main (Historical Museum) presented the project „Schwierige Dinge – Raubgut in Privatbesitz” (Problematic Things – Nazi loot in private property) for the second workshop. Four museums from Frankfurt were cooperating for the project: the Historisches Museum, the Museum Angewandte Kunst (Museum for Applied Arts), the Weltkulturen Museum (World Cultures Museum) and the Jewish Museum. Citizens of Frankfurt were appealed to bring in objects, which they suspected to be Nazi confiscated cultural goods. During various following workshops provenance research was conducted by the owners assisted by experts. Different steps of research were documented via drawings and interviews which were eventually shown in the exhibition „Geerbt. Gekauft. Geraubt? “(Inherited. Bought. Looted?). Participants of the Einbeck workshop took first-check museums like the StadtMuseum Einbeck (Einbeck City Museum) as best suited to offer similar services to the public to combat a “collective amnesia” concerning Nazi loot in private property.
