Neue Formen des kunsthistorischen Publizierens jenseits von Aufsatz und Monografie

Die Publikationsdatenbank des Corpus der barocken Deckenmalerei in Deutschland

This article discusses forms of publication in the area of art history that go beyond the monograph and the essay, using the example of the publication database of the corpus of German baroque ceiling paintings. The advantages of digital publishing for corpus projects, and the importance of metadata and semantic links are discussed. Corpus works in art history produce a considerable amount of research data, and these can be used for networking in novel ways. The text can be linked and enriched with research data and with information traditionally stored in the register or index. Corpus entries can be arranged and presented using digital publication according to different subject criteria. Corpus works always run the risk of presenting knowledge isolated from the outside world. The possibilities offered by digital networking can remedy this shortcoming. New possibilities in the digital realm allow the impression of an art book to be recreated. High-resolution digital photography and 3D reconstructions turn the corpus of stationary objects into a virtual museum.
