Barock ist besser als Moderne?!

Die Problematik der Objektivität: Zwischen architekturhistorischen Bewertungsstrategien und sich stetig wandelnden gesellschaftlichen Wertvorstellungen

Palace of the Republic or Berlin Palace? The decision in favor of the Humboldt Forum was preceded by an intensive discussion about the development of the location. The issue was the negotiation and representation of a new claim to power and a new pan-German self-image. The juxtaposition of the two buildings led to a strong polarization of the discourse, whereupon they were compared and hierarchized. This emphasizes the need for scientifi-cally sustainable evaluation strategies, which can be a constant instrument of architectural history as well as monument preservation despite the constant change of value concepts and symbolic attributions.

Katharina Marschall (M.A.): Studied art history at the universities of Marburg and Würzburg with a focus on architectural history. Since 2023 working as a research assistant at the State Office for Monument Preservation Hesse in the field of monument registration and monument register.
