Vorstellungen vom Vernakulären in der Architektur der europäischen Nachkriegsmoderne
The following essay is not intended to provide a conceptual history of the vernacular, but to highlight certain developments in the discipline of modern architecture after the end of the Second World War: developments which reveal differing notions of the everyday as well as different modes of appropriation in design and approach. The framework for these observations is provided by the designs and statements of four architects – Giancarlo de Carlo, Alison Smithson and Peter Smithson, and Aldo van Eyck – who presented them at the final meetings of the Congrès Internationaux d’Architecture Moderne (CIAM).
