Michael Hofbauer completed his doctorate on Lucas Cranach's drawings at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts and is the author of the complete catalogue raisonné CORPUS CRANACH. He has written numerous specialist articles on painting in the early modern period and conducts research on phenomenological approaches to the identification of hands and the recognition of forgeries. He is also the scientific director of the digital institute cranach.net and initiator of the Heidelberg symposia cranach.talk.
