Provenienzforschung an der Kunsthalle Emden
From Beckmann to Trimborn - Provenance Research at Kunsthalle Emden
In mid-October 2020, a project funded by the German Lost Art Foundation began at the Kunsthalle Emden to systematically research the museum’s holdings. The focus was on examining around 100 paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts objects, with view to identifying cultural property expropriated as a result of Nazi persecution. The article provides an overview of the project and describes its special features, opportunities and challenges.
