The volume Virtuelle Hochschullehre tackles 50 key questions about teaching and learning in the virtual space inspired by our experience advising educators. The handbook provides sound and applicable answers for teachers who are engaged in teaching their students virtually. The book aims to be a pragmatic guidebook, a concise reference work, and a versatile source for inspiration.

In addition to didactic principles, the focus is on the following topics

  • Technology, tools and their role
  • Event formats
  • Assessment
  • Classroom management, learning materials and accessibility
  • Collaboration, communication and understanding of roles
  • Participation and motivation

Petra Eggensperger is head of the Department of Teaching & Learning at the heiSKILLS Competence and Language Centre at the University of Heidelberg. In 2001, she established educational staff development in Heidelberg and works as a lecturer and consultant on all aspects of teaching and learning. She also accompanies the implementation of innovations in courses and curricula in the context of the European University Alliance 4eu+.

Ingo Kleiber studied English, political science, and economics at Heidelberg University, pursuing a teaching degree. After previously working at the Heidelberg School of Education, he is now an Expert for Digital Education and Educational Technology at the Vice-Rectorate for Teaching and Studies of the University of Cologne. He is currently also pursuing his Ph.D. at the intersection of corpus/computational linguistics and foreign language teaching.

Rafael Klöber is an academic developer in higher education and a historian of religion at Heidelberg University. He loves to facilitate, coach and teach workshops about basics of teaching and learning, research-based learning and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. He is an editor for the journal HINT. Heidelberg Inspirations for Innovative Teaching.

Stefanie Maria Lorenz, Dipl.-Päd., is an academic developer in higher education at Heidelberg University. Additionally, she has completed further education in systemic coaching. She leads workshops on topics of teaching and learning, advises institutes and disciplines on curricular issues and moderates institute-internal teaching days. She coordinates the program for the acquisition of the Baden-Württemberg Certificate of Teaching and Learning at University Level for the Heidelberg University.

Anne Schindel studied classical and English languages and literatures in Göttingen and, while getting her PhD at Yale University, worked as a tutor, consultant, and trainer at the Yale College Writing Center and the Yale Center for Teaching and Learning. After several years as a lecturer and assistant teaching professor of academic writing and critical thinking at the University of Southern California, she is now a staff member in the department of teaching and learning within the heiSKILLS Competence and Language Center at Heidelberg University where she leads workshops on the fundamentals of teaching and learning and on academic writing. She also offers consultations for instructors and academic departments on incorporating academic writing into subject-specific courses.
