The series “FEST kompakt” features contributions on current political and societal topics from the ongoing work of the interdisciplinary Forschungsstätte der Evangelischen Studiengemeinschaft (FEST) in Heidelberg. The breadth of topics – which includes perspectives from political and social sciences, cultural studies, philosophy, and theology, as well as law, economics, and natural sciences – is intended to spark interest in the diversity of current scholarly discussions.
Starting from a central term, a current controversy, or a thesis to be discussed, each volume introduces an academic field with the aim to comprehensibly present the essential topics and issues in lay terms. The focus is not on simply presenting facts, but rather on introducing scholarship as a movement of thought, prompting reenactment as well as disagreement. The series addresses readers who want to inform themselves in a sophisticated, concise, and competent manner, and who want to be inspired to further reflection.
